Moments that matter: Sarah Carter Photography

Based out of Lincolnshire just a stone’s throw from Cambridgeshire and Rutland, Sarah Carter is more than just a talented wedding photographer; she’s the warm-hearted storyteller who’ll capture your day with heartfelt honesty and bright, joyful authenticity. Known for her uncanny ability to turn candid emotions into enduring art (think 90% documentary charm mixed with 10% Vogue-worthy portraits), Sarah brings a truly personal touch to every wedding.

In between dashing from one beautiful shoot to the next, we managed to steal a little time with Sarah to ask her all those practical questions every bride needs to know. True to form, she was warm, open, and wonderfully down-to-earth, the same qualities that shine through in her work. Here’s what she had to say!

How would you describe your photography style (e.g. documentary, editorial, natural, romantic)?

90% Candids and 10% Iconic Portraits

Documentary with a stylish edge. I’m all about real moments, unposed interactions and catching the in-between magic, but with a clean, editorial feel. Not into cheesy or overly romantic stuff. I want your photos to feel like you, just on a really good day.

Can we see a full gallery from a recent wedding you’ve photographed?

Yes 100%. I always recommend couples look at full galleries, not just highlight reels. You want to see the full story, not just the Instagrammable bits. I’m happy to share recent weddings that match the vibe you’re planning.

How do you approach capturing candid vs posed moments throughout the day?

Candid is my bread and butter. I hang back, observe, and shoot things as they naturally unfold. I shoot wide on a 35mm and then use an 85mm for the details. That said, I’ll step in when needed, like for relaxed couple portraits or if you want a few group shots (even though I know most of my couples aren’t mad about them). The couples that book me are often looking for modern storytelling.

Will you be the photographer on the day, or do you work with a second shooter?

It’s always me shooting. I’m your photographer from start to finish. For bigger weddings or if the schedule’s tight, I’ll sometimes bring a second shooter someone I trust and have worked with before.

How many hours of coverage are included, and can we add extra time if needed?

I really only do full days now, from prep to party. But yes, extra time can be added. I keep it flexible. No stopwatch here. Occasionally I will do a city wedding based on hours if it a small intimate affair.

Do you visit the venue in advance to scout photo spots or lighting?

If it’s local or I haven’t shot there before, I’ll usually swing by or arrive early on the day. But honestly, with 10 years of experience, I can adapt to any space or lighting situation. I know how to find the good stuff, fast.

How long after the wedding will we receive our edited photos, and how are they delivered?

Around 4–6 weeks, depending on the season. Everything’s delivered in a private online gallery that you can share, download and print from. Super easy and mobile-friendly.

Can you provide a sneak peek or highlights gallery shortly after the wedding?

Definitely. I usually send a preview within 24 hours,  a handful of little moments and a hero shot to tide you over until the full gallery’s ready.

Do you offer engagement shoots or pre-wedding sessions?

Yes! They’re a great way to get comfy in front of the camera and for us to get to know each other before the big day. Plus, you get some lovely photos of just the two of you without the wedding whirlwind.
