We understand that you will probably have many questions you’d like to ask, after all it’s one of the biggest and most important days of your life. We’re here to help you with lots of useful information about Thetford Farm Barn and answer some of our frequently asked questions. Of course, one of the best ways to find out more about our venue is to pay us a visit, we’d love to show you around.

Booking and Pricing

How do I arrange a viewing?
We’re always here to help and would love to show you around our beautiful, new venue. You have a few different options; you can fill in the contact form, call us on 01778 594 222 or email us at team@thetfordfarmbarn.co.uk. We are looking forward to welcoming you to Thetford Farm Barn.
How do I check availability?

We keep our availability details up to date at on the availability section of our website, please click here for further details. There currently may be good availability and you could be one of the first to experience the magical charm of Thetford Farm Barn, as our brand new venue is nearing completion and now taking bookings for Spring 2024 onwards.

When can I make a booking?
We strongly recommend a visit to see for yourself our amazing buildings and the beautiful surrounding countryside. Weekend wedding bookings cover a 48hr booking from Friday morning to Sunday morning – exact timings can be agreed with you. Weekday weddings are Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. We can be flexible with these timings. We are taking bookings from Spring 2024, please check our calendar under the availability section of the site for further details.
What happens on our first viewing of the venue?

Please allow a good hour for our first meeting, this is an important time so we want you to gain all the information you need. Join us for a tea or coffee and a slice of homemade cake, see the space and how it works for you and get comfortable with how we can make your day amazing. You’ll have an opportunity to meet the team who know every inch of the buildings and can answer all your individual questions.

We try to cover everything in great detail so that we have a good understanding of your requirements for your big day. We’ll show you all our facilities such as the ceremony areas, dining and reception buildings, preparation rooms and kitchen, parking and access areas.

We will also talk about the support our Events Team can provide, catering possibilities, plus our bar and drinks options. We will also explain how our team will effectively communicate with you between your first visit and your big day.

Can we bring our wedding planner to our first visit?

Yes, of course. Please bring your wedding planner or a member of your family if that works for you.

Do you have recommended wedding planners?

Can I book for a large party, not a wedding?

Yes, of course. Thetford Farm Barn is ideally suited for any celebration, large or small.

What are the payment terms?


A non refundable deposit of 25% of the hire fee is payable to secure your date. 50% payable 6 months prior to the event date. Remaining 25% 4 weeks prior to event date.

What’s included and not included?

Included

  • Exclusive use of our private venue – barns, courtyards and preparation suites.
  • Our stunning Ceremony Hall, able to accommodate up to 250 seated guests.
  • The Dining Room, affectionately called ‘The Piggery’ with seating for up to 200 guests.
  • Our evening reception with space for 400+ guests.
  • The Dressing Room, our gorgeous boutique area and changing room.
  • The Hayloft, with 3/4 size snooker table – perfect for photographs, speeches, or that bouquet throwing moment!
  • Full use of our catering kitchen and The White Horse Bar, ready to stock and staff.
  • Full PA system throughout.
  • Beautifully designed cloakrooms and accessible suite with baby changing.
  • Car park for 120 guests’ cars, taxis & coaches.

Not included

  • Caterers or catering equipment cutlery, crockery, glassware, table linen, decorations, centerpieces, flowers.
  • Registrars Fees (these are to be paid directly).
  • Marquees, entertainment – DJ, band, magician etc.
  • Service staff.
When would we need to leave the venue at the end of our booking?

Our event team will ensure that everyone has left the buildings at the end of the night so we can lock up and make sure everything is safe. Guests and suppliers are asked to vacate the site by 12noon on the day after the wedding event.

Facilities

What is the barn and what was it originally used for?

The main ‘Ceremony Barn’ with its red brick walls, exposed beams and double height ceiling is reminiscent of a church, with an amazing atmosphere, plenty of family history and lots of character. It has an intimate grandeur and the impressive isle that will be every couples dream! Over 70 years ago it was used as a grain storage building for Frank Richardson & Sons who still farm the local land as arable farmers. The farm itself is a 3rd generation business and continues to farm the surrounding landscape while carefully considering the wider environmental aspects of the business.

The original Piggery building – named as a whimsical nod to its past – will have a stunning new glass fronted extension, with floor to ceiling windows to flood the room with light and will become our new flexible reception space. The whole site is private and exclusive, it can’t be seen from either the road or Baston village itself, a true hidden gem.

Where can we get ready?

We will have two fabulous preparation areas, The Dressing Room, perfect for styling hair and make up and taking time to relax in a stress-free environment with family and friends (and of course a glass of bubbly).

The ushers can have their space too in The Hayloft, where they can enjoy the comfort of classic Chesterfield sofas, a 3/4 size snooker table and mini bar for that early tipple!

What accommodation is available?
We are thrilled to be able to offer a beautiful house in the local village of Baston that sleeps 10 people. From September 2025 we will also have four luxury double rooms and a Honeymoon suite, just a few yards away from The Barn. We have selected a range of local hotels or places to stay across a variety of budgets to ensure you and all your guests have a lovely weekend.
Do you provide camping on site overnight?
Sorry, but we currently don’t allow camping or sleeping on site overnight.
Can I fly drones over the site?

Yes, as the site is privately owned this is certainly possible, you’ll get some amazing footage.

Do you have parking facilities onsite?
Yes, a parking area is just a short walk from The Barn and will accommodate up to 120 cars. Should your guests be arriving by coach there is ample space for them too.
Do you have disabled access?
Our spaces and bathroom facilities are all suitable for disabled access. The hard surfaces are suitable for wheeled access.
Do you have baby changing facilities?
Yes we do. They are located within The Accessible Suite.
Do you allow dogs or animals?
Yes, we love animals. We’re sure our farm cats Monty and Arthur would love some company!

Wedding Ceremony

Are you licensed for civil ceremonies?

Yes, we have a full civil wedding license for our two inside and two outside areas.

You will need to contact Lincolnshire County Council to book you ceremony, this can be done for ceremonies three months to four years in advance. Fees associated with the ceremony are paid directly to the registrars. We recommend you check with the registrar on availability prior to booking with us.

Will there be another wedding at Thetford Farm Barn at the same time?
Absolutely not, we want the space to be uniquely yours and for you to enjoy it in the most memorable way. You will have full exclusive use of our venue during your booked dates. Unlike hotels who will have other guests, gym members, or even perhaps another wedding in another wing on the same day, the only people here will be your guests, your suppliers, the farm & estate team and our wedding events team.
How many people can I have at my wedding?
We pride ourselves on being able to make the space work for you in the best way possible. We can accommodate 200+ guests for your ceremony in The Barn and for the reception we can cater for over 400 guests using the inside and outside spaces.
How long is the aisle?
It’s an impressive 20m long or a 30 second walk!
Can I have a weekday wedding?

Absolutely yes! We offer our venue for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for midweek bookings. Please visit our availability page for further information.

Can we use confetti?

In the interest of maintaining a more ecologically friendly environment, we only allow real dried flowers confetti. This links with the farm and it’s ethos towards sustainability. To facilitate this, we have selected a lovely supplier that grows and dries their own flowers in Shropshire and ask that if possible all your confetti is purchased directly from them. If you have your own supplier of dried flower confetti, then we are of course happy for you to bring your own.

Can I have just the wedding party with you and the wedding ceremony at an alternative venue at a different time?
Yes, absolutely. The hire of our space does not require you to have your wedding ceremony with us.

Wedding Reception

Do you provide catering or drinks?
We have carefully selected some of the best caterers who come highly recommended for large events and a reputation for serving stunning food. Please see our recommended catering list for further information. The Grain Store and The White Horse Bar are both ready to be stocked and staffed specifically for your event. We can recommend a very experienced company that is ready to provide an amazing service for you and your guests. You’re welcome to book additional food provision after the main wedding breakfast. All we ask is you please book these independently and notify us. They will need to be self contained, power and water is available but will need to be discussed early in the planning process. (Please note we will need to approve the quality of these providers).
Can I choose my own suppliers for catering, music etc?

For the catering and bar, we require you to select a supplier from the excellent companies we have shortlisted.

For all other suppliers you can choose from our list of carefully selected suppliers. We have extensively researched suitable suppliers and have a list for all styles, tastes and budgets.

Can I also have a marquee or tipi?

Yes, absolutely. We have designed our courtyards with inset anchor points for easy marquee installation. A marquee can be positioned in either of our two courtyards. Please see our preferred suppliers for further information.

Tipis will look amazing in the meadow area, please see our map for further details. This space will be ideal for up to three tipis connected together.

Do you provide furniture?

Yes, we provide long and round tables plus chairs that are included in the price. If you wish to choose your own tables and chairs then this is possible, but there would not be a discount off the venue hire rate.

Do you supply décor for interiors and exteriors?

We currently do not supply our own interior or exterior decor. However, please see our preferred supplier list for further information.

How long can the party last?
We have a licence for a party to last until 11:00pm. The music and bar can be enjoyed until this time. We would kindly ask you and your guests who are not staying in the accommodation on site (from September 2025) to depart by 11.30pm. Unfortunately due to licensing this timing cannot be extended.
What music entertainment is provided?

We know a fantastic local band and some local DJs but totally understand if your playlist is different. Please see our preferred list for further information.

Can we have an open fire or fire pit?
Yes, no problem. We have specific areas for a fire pit to be placed to ensure you and your guests are as safe as possible.
Can we have a firework display/Chinese lanterns?
Sadly we do not have a licence for these items/activities.
Can I land a helicopter or take off in a hot air balloon from Thetford Farm Barn?

Yes! Please talk to us about your hair-raising plans. We also have links with some great people that can take you into the skies. See our recommended suppliers list.

Do you have a play area for children?
Sadly not, but we welcome children to be part of your fantastic day. Please bear in mind we are a working farm (with a pond), so in the interests of safety we kindly ask that all children are responsibly supervised at all times. It is possible to hire spaces at our Dutch Barn on site, so you can organise your own child care providers, entertainment or even a magician.
Do you have a Public Address (PA) system for music or speeches?
We have a full PA that runs through the entirety of the inside spaces and can be isolated depending on the room you wish to use. If you wish our system can be linked directly with your tablet, phone or laptop audio output to simply use a playlist for background music. For a disco we recommend a professional DJ set up.
Can I book singing waiters or magicians?
Absolutely, sounds fun!
